Days Of Time Gone By

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Got the idea for photographing this train, Mountain Thunder of the Western MD Scenic Railroad, from another photographer who is also an Internet Friend. Took a walk down the Rail Trail to a point where the atmosphere looked more like it was in the past and waited for Mountain Thunder to come around the bend.

Took a number of photos, several of which I will post on here, and will only post those that are of wonderful interest, at least to me, and I hope that you will enjoy them as well... :-)

A Back Hallway Stairwell ..... A Black & White Photo on Black Friday

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Last Friday I posted a photo of a school's back hallway.

Opens in a new window

On another site of a local nature the photo response was over 200. During that time more than once was there mentioned about a stairwell that led to the 2nd floor. It was amazing how many people mentioned this stairwell so I thought that it would be a good idea to post a photo of it. I am quite curious as to what, if any, responses I will get for this photo. We'll see..... :-)

Every Day Wonder..... Into The Woods

Please click on the photo for a better image

If you go down to the woods today you're sure of a big surprise... So starts the song, "Teddy Bear's Picnic".

In this neighborhood you go down to the end of the lane and, at the last house, you can enter into the woods. The trees here are always among those whose leaves last the longest and this year was no exception...

Every Day Wonders..... Off Of Route 51

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Was heading out of town on Rt. 51, and by now most of the trees are void of leaves, when suddenly I noticed this little plot of woodland with these colors still showing. I pulled off and parked across the road from this sight and took several photos of these trees.

This image is the one that I liked best. It shows the colors of Rust, Wheat and Green. I loved the combination and just seeing this in the midst of leafless tress was quite amazing. Why these trees when all else were bare? Sometimes nature throws us a curve and only when one is looking can you see the wonderful scene that presents to us an "Every Day Wonder"...

A School's Back Hallway

Please click on the photo for a better image...

When empty a school's back hallway can look lonely and cold. It does, however, make one wonder who's feet have been here. How many hands have been held. The flirt, the hug or a quick kiss. Who knows what all has occurred in this hallway over the years? The only one who does know is the back hallway itself, and it isn't saying anything, but it does know all... :-)

Every Day Wonders..... One Way Stop

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Come to an intersection and you can see what you need to do. Love the way the tree looks in the background and I start to take a photo of this scene just as this truck comes roaring throw going the other way..... On another road... :-)

Every Day Wonders..... Front Yard Potomac Park

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Today I am starting a new series of photos called "Every Day Wonders". These are photos from every day life of something that I perceive to be wonderful, amazing or beautiful. For me these are scenes that many will take for granted and just past by without even a second glance.

I believe that there are photographic opportunities everywhere and that it only takes a little time of your day to day activities to look for them and to see them. For the next several weeks I will be posting photos from my little piece of the world where I live; that are taken within 10 miles of my home of scenes, activities and people that I find interesting enough to document for viewing.

Today's image was taken in my neighborhood close to my own home. This photo was taken about a week ago and today the red flowers are almost all gone. This image was taken on a cloudy, rainy and a slightly windy day with my Fuji X20. In fact all of the images, for the most part, will be taken by this little camera.

I hope you enjoy seeing these photos and I look forward to any and all comments that you may decide to give. So come along for the ride and let me know what you think... :-)

A Tribute To Two Grandsons

Last Friday night an era ended for Mary and I. Two Grandson's, seniors at two different schools and each playing different sports, played in their final games; one soccer and the other football. Because of scheduling, we were only able to see each play in the second half of their respective games. In one Grandson I can see so much of his Dad and the other Grandson displays so much of his Mom. While bigger and better things could be awaiting both of them, we will miss these moments of watching their speed, the grace in which they played and the toughness that came through with their actions.

They are both true athletes in every sense of the word, intelligent in their class work and loving members of our family. Times like these are fleeting. We saw it with our own kids and we are now seeing it with our Grandson's; our eldest Grandson has already moved on from high school and sports and we have one who just came into high school and one who is in pre-school.

Times like these come around only once, my friends, so enjoy them while you can because once they are passed you only have the memories and, in my case, hundreds - maybe several thousand overall - of photos on which to fall back on. That is the reason for which I first took up photography, beginning with my own kids, and it was worth it.

Good luck and God bless to our Grandson’s River and Ethan. We sure do love you both...

For River (in Red with Green Shoes), except for scoring an occasional goal, there is great satisfaction in taking the ball away from the opposition and heading back up field. He has great leaping ability for headball passing and, with his speed and great footwork, he can get pass defenders to pass the ball on to a striker for a score. Something which he has done all season...

Ethan (#67 in Blue) plays both offense and defense, and when he is not blocking and making running lanes while on offense, he loves playing defense and even when being pushed from behind he can still reach out and grab a scrambling Quarterback, or running back, and take them down. He has had his name called numerous times all season for making tackles...

To E and Riv... we love you both with a never ending and unconditional love, and will sorely miss watching you play the games that you love... :-)

Outside A Stadium Gate

Sometimes I will see something that reminds me of how easy it is to forget the past but, then, it also makes me realize how much you can miss being young... :-)

October's End

Taken late in the evening on the last day of October 2015. We are at the point where much is done and much still needs to change. It is always interesting around here this time of the year...
