Angry Grackle

Please click on the photo for a better image...

I had glanced out of a back window when I saw this Grackle feeding from something in the snow. It was close enough for me to grab my camera and get back to the window to see the bird pick something up and the look was one of almost anger. Just as if he had picked something up that he wasn't expecting.

I only had time to grab one shot before it took off and this is what I captured. From the look in the yellow eye he does look as if he is angry, and that is why I titled this post Angry Grackle...

St. Peter's Church In Black & White

Please click on the photo for a better image...

On Monday I posted a vertical image, in color, of this church in Harpers Ferry, WV. You can see that photo by clicking here...

While I like both photos I'm inclined to lean towards the B&W image. What do you think?

St. Peter's Catholic Church Harpers Ferry

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Originally built in 1833, this church was the only one in Harpers Ferry not damaged during the Civil War. In 1896 the church was extensively altered to the look that it has today. If you click on the link below you can see a different view of this church that I took in 2011.

The View From Jefferson's Rock

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Last week I had posted a photo showing me sitting up at Jefferson's Rock in Harpers Ferry, WV. In that photo, which can be seen here, I was looking in a specific direction. What I was looking at was this view seen here.

This is the junction of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers, and three states are here as well. They are Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia where I was sitting when I took this photo.

Again, you will get a far better view of the image if you click on the photo... Thanks...

Church Ruins In Harpers Ferry, WV

Please click on the photo for a better image...

These ruins are all that remains of St. John's Episcopal Church in Harpers Ferry, WV. Built in 1852 it served the local congregation until 1895 when a new church was built in another location. During the Civil War the church building served as barracks and a hospital and received considerable damage.

As you climb the steps to get to Jefferson's Rock you will pass these ruins which are next to the steps.

Friday Photo Find..... Guardrail Walker

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Starting today we begin a new Friday Photo presentation called the "Friday Photo Find". These will be photos that I suddenly come upon and only have one shot at getting the image; from either walking or riding.

This photos was taken as I was driving along the lane leading from Harpers Ferry, WV up to the Visitor's Center. As I came around the corner we saw this woman walking on the Guardrails alongside the road. I quickly grabbed my camera and held it up to the windshield and quickly took this image. It turned out slightly underexposed and I had to adjust levels and the color in Photoshop Elements and also crop it slightly as well for a better view.

From the look at the way she was walking I would surmise that she has done this many times before.

So, this is the kind of photos that will appear from time to time as a "Friday Photo Find". I hope that I will be able to capture more images like this but I know I won't be able to unless I'm looking for them and have a camera with me at all times.

Up at Jefferson's Rock in Harpers Ferry, WV. A self-portrait, of course, as no one else was around at the time; first time there without a bunch of kids climbing everywhere... :-)

The Wedding Couple - 1969

Please click on the photo for a slightly better image...

Mary and I were Married 45 years ago on March 9, 1969; after having just met 65 days earlier. Of all of the photos that were taken, even the pro ones, this photo, a cropped portion of a 126 film square snapshot, is the one that my wife has been carrying around in her wallet all of these years.

Sometimes the un-intended "found" photo turns out to be the one most liked. I'm still in love with this woman, even more than when we were married... :-)
