Weekly Black & White Square Photo

Cumberland Station

This weeks B&W photo is just a little different. Obviously you can see that. My purpose for this photo was to create an image that has a look or a sense of being old.

First, this photo was taken with a DSLR and an 18 - 70mm lens at 1/80 sec & f/5.6. In Photoshop Elements I converted it to a B&W image, cropped it for the square look and re-sized it for web viewing. I then gave it an antique look , added some vignetting and finished it off with a touch of shapening.

I kind'a like this photo and I think it does have an old look to it, which is what I was trying to achieve. However, I would like to hear from you and what your thoughts are about this image; whether you like it or not and why. If you would leave a comment below I would be very grateful for it. Thanks.

Yeah, this is my old world view of the Cumberland Station (Western Maryland Station) and you are welcome to it.

Road Trip Photography

Morning On The Farm

This photo was taken just a couple of months ago while on one of my service trips into Garrett County in Western Maryland. I was doing about 30mph when I took this photo as I came around a slow turn.

For this image I used a 5mp P&S camera set on Auto. In Photoshop Elements I adjusted the contrast a little, burned in a few areas and then resized it for Internet viewing. Lastly I added just a touch of sharpening.

This is my world, in beautiful Garrett County, and you are welcome to it.

Weekly Black & White Square Photo

Peace In The Midst Of A Storm

For Thanksgiving week, this is a re-play of the Photo that started the Weekly B&W Square Photo. You can see the original post, and the reason for it, here at this link - Storm Coming

Yes, this is Thanksgiving week. A time for giving thanks for the blessings we've received this past year. For most people, the One to Whom we give thanks is God. This photo is just a reminder that even in the midst of a storm we can still go to the One Who gave us life and breath and all we need for living in a world that is not always sunny.

O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 107:1

I pray that all of you will have a fun filled and Happy Thanksgiving :-)

Yeah, this is my world and, regardless of your religious views, you are welcome to it.

Weekly Black & White Square Photo

Water House

Sitting out in the bushes, a crumbled folding chair lying next to it, rusty, lonely, overgrown, waiting for it's owner to come back. What had it been used for? How long ago was it in operation? Let your imagination flow with what you see. It can be whatever you want it to be. It's the "Water House".

This image was taken with a DSLR and a 28 - 200mm lens. ISO was 400 and the capture was 1/200 at f/5.6. In Photoshop Elements the photo was converted to a B&W image and cropped for the square look. I increased the contrast a little, added some vignetting and a touch of sharpening to compensate for the loss of sharpness due to the resizing for Internet viewing.

This was discovered during a youth football game as it was near the field. Just one of those images that needed to be recorded for what it seemed to be and where it was found. A Still? I don't know. Never had one.

However, it is one of those items that if you are not looking - photographically speaking - you will never see it. In my world I like to look for the unusual, the interesting items that others might pass by, but one that would give an indication of what my world is like.

Yeah, this is my "Water House" world and you are welcome to it.

Anyone have a jug?

A View From Western Maryland

Farm Landscape

Sitting out in the country side, this farm in Garrett County creates a photo just begging to be taken - so I did.

The image was taken with a 5mp P&S camera and then cropped for the wide look in photoshop elements. It was optimized for web viewing and that was it. Although not as many as in the past, there are still quite a number of farms in Western MD and this is just one of them.

Yeah, this is part of my farm world and you are welcome to it.

Weekly Black & White Square Photo

Lake Side Fall

When the trees become bare the water level drops. Docks become platforms and sadness returns. Summer is gone and so is the fun, or so it seems. For this is just an interlude of rest before Winter arrives and the Winter games begin.

Deep Creek Lake is a great all year round playground; boating, swimming and fishing. And with the Winter season comes Ice Fishing and Snowmobiling, if the Lake freezes over enough. Even if it doesn't there is always Skiing at the Wisp Ski Resort right next to the Lake.

And for all the info on the Lake, and the surrounding area, check out the Deep Creek Blog.

As for this photo, it was taken with a 5mp P&S camera. In Photoshop Elements, it was converted to a B&W photo and cropped for the square look. I added some contrast, vignetting some burning in and a touch of sharpening.

Although it looks bleak now it will soon be a Winter Wonder Land on and around Deep Creek Lake; Western Maryland's hidden gem.

Yeah, this is my World of Wonder and you are welcome to it.

A View From Western Maryland

Fall's Fading Away

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Yeah, this is my Fall is fading world, and you are welcome to it.

Weekly Black & White Square Photo

The Catch

As a follow up to last weeks B&W Square Photo this is "The Catch". You can decide for yourself whether or not the ball was caught or if it was dropped; let your imagination run with it :-)

This was taken with a DSLR and a 28 - 200mm lens. ISO was 400 taken at 1/640 sec & f/8. In Photoshop Elements the image was cropped for the square look, converted to a B&W photo and I added some vignetting, a little burning in and a touch of sharpening.

Youth sports is big part of my photography world and I really enjoy capturing that special photo that the kids will like; this boy did.

Yeah, this is my football world and you are welcome to it.
