Dog Face

Pulled into a parking space at the market and this is what I found looking at me out of the side window. The look makes one wonder what the dog was really thinking?

A Snowy Day In The Woods

Please click on the photo for a better image...

During the 1st snow storm of the year I took a short walk to the edge of the woods nearby where I live. Seeing something like this makes me glad that I never had to trudge through such a hard but beautiful scene of nature because of it being a part of my lifestyle. I am glad that I live where I do and that the woods are there for when I want to enjoy them. However, this was not a day in which to do so; at least not at my age... :-)

The Schooner Alliance

Please click on the photo for a better image...

UPDATE:... As of Saturday morning we now have about 23 inches of snow - give or take. It is still snowing and the forecast for today is for an additional 8 to 12 inches of new snow, on top of what we already have.

Yeah, it would be nice to be some where warm right about now. After lunch I will be out starting to do the 1st of probably several snow shoveling to get everything cleared up. Maybe I will post a follow-up snow photo on Monday... Take care, everyone...

As we wait for the Snow Storm of the year to arrive let us think of warmer climates and nicer days. Here we see the Schooner Alliance out on the York River coming in from the Chesapeake Bay. Temperatures are about 75, it is just partly cloudy and the wind is blowing as a warm Southern breeze.

OK, with that in mind, I am sitting here drinking some coffee, watching for the snow and the shovels are on the back porch waiting... Sigh...

Princess Restaurant ... Part 2

Please click on either photo for a better image...

On Monday I introduced you to the Princess Restaurant in Frostburg, MD. You can see that post here..

Today I would like to show you these two photos as well. In the top photo, the young lady behind the counter, is our Waitress. In addition to waiting on customers in booths she also takes care of those at the counter. She was very nice, was very attentive to our needs and really helped to make our visit quite enjoyable.

In the bottom photo is a booth Jukebox. Each booth has one of these where you can play songs and choose the volume through three push buttons on the front. This way, you can play songs just for the those in the booth or turn it up for those on both sides as well. Like taking a trip back into time.

If you ever get to Western Maryland you must stop in Frostburg and pay a visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Princess Restaurant and you will have a very tasty meal and you will be glad that you stopped...

Princess Restaurant

Please click on either photo for a better image...

In 1939 the Princess opened as a confectionery and from there evolved into one of the areas most visited restaurants, and is still in business today.

In the second image one can see the original diner look with both counter and booth services. There is a second room that has been added off to one side but most people still want to sit on this side.

On Wednesday I will show a couple more images from inside the diner and one with a very unique but still used item...

Thinking About The Future

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Never gave much thought to it before but it dawned on me today that I have lived most of my life. Granted, I have lived longer than my parents but not as yet as long as my Grandparents. I do have a target as to how long I would like to live and that is to be 102 years of age. I may tell you about it sometime.

What got me to thinking about the future, however, is that today I turned 69. To be truthful I do not feel that I am that old, my youthful mentality says that I am not, but my body sometimes says that I am. So, this gave rise to my thinking about the future.

There are so many trips that I want to take with my wife, and there are new Fuji cameras that I would like to have - cannot afford a Leica - but living on Social Security does not make it easy to do any of these things. So, I will just have to wait and see how the future treats me.

Having said that, I should disclose that I have a secret weapon on my side. My faith in my Lord Jesus. What He wants for me is what I want as well. As He blesses me, as He chooses, is all I really need. I do have a most wonderful and loving wife, good health, and a nice little, should say small, but comfortable home.

My future may be short but it will be quite interesting in which to live with the outlook that I have. I hope to still be here, if and when I do reach 102, and may you be there as well. Till then I will see you on the road to photographic dreams... :-)

Friday Favorite..... Abandoned

Please click on the photo for a better image...

First published this image in June of last year. I kinda worked it a bit and now I like it even better. It kinda' looks like something that you would find on a movie set in a sound stage.

Is it outside or is it inside? Look at it closely and then you decide where you think it is at... :-)

Looking Back On Autumn

Please click on the photo for a better image...

As we are going through the coldest weather of the season I got to thinking back on last Fall. We had taken a trip down a road called Bear Creek Road and this is one of the scenes that I created with my camera. I love Autumn as it is the most colorful time of the year. Seeing this image once again just makes me want for Spring to soon arrive, even if it will not happen for another two months.

Anyway, this photo warms me up. That along with a good cup of coffee and and something good to read will help me to get through the rest of the week...

Taps For Charlie

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Charlie was 78. He was a good man and well liked by many people. He was laid to rest on New Years Day of 2016. Having been in the Army Charlie was given a Military burial. Taps was played for him. I took this photo and then saluted Charlie one last time.

Good-bye my Friend, and Cousin, you will be sorely missed...

Mt. View Church Of The Brethern

Please click on the photo for a better image...

Charlie is my Cousin. He is a true West Virginia Riffey. A good man who, if you were to ask him for help, he would not hesitate but say, "Let's go". Our Great Grandfather, after serving in the civil war, was a founding member of this church in Lost City, WV. It was built in 1887.

Charlie was buried today; he was 78. His internment was not in the Riffey cemetery near this church where our Great Grandfather and his family is buried, but in Mt. Olivet cemetery which is across the street from his home in Moorefield. He will be given a Military burial.

You will be missed, Charlie. You now know everything you ever wanted to know about our Great Grandfather, and probably more. You spent a good bit of your life researching him and our family. Now your search is done...

Good-bye my Friend...
