Winter In The Mountains

Please click on the photo for a better image...

I have lived where the land is flat and have seen the snow far and wide but, for me, there is nothing like Winter in the mountains. And come Thursday I know that I will have a lot more photo ops. I may be old but I still love the Winter snow, especially in the mountains...

Color Of Winter..... Dawn and Dusk

Two Winter views of a neighborhood. The top photo shows what "dawn" is like on any snowy morning and the second photo shows what a different view shows when it is "dusk". Even in Winter color can be found, if it is something for which you will look...

Color in Winter months are not easy to find. Usually I will shoot in black and white but on occasion I like to look for some color, especially after a snow fall, and create some images to let me know that all is well and that soon Winter will be gone. That does help to get me through... :-)

Cold Mountain

One thing that I like about cold weather is how it can clean the air and create moments when long distance photography can be done, with a clear view to the top.

This is a cropped image taken with a Fuji X20. Because of the cold air, the scene was clear enough that I could photograph this mountain top view from my front yard and be able to crop it for a closer view. So I did and what I got was the most vibrant view of this mountain top of the past five years.

BTW, the mountain top is over a mile away...

Birth Of A Winter's Sunrise

On Friday morning I had gone out early to get a haircut. Don't ask, I've been doing it this way for years. Anyway, on the way back home I noticed how the sky, in the distance, was just starting to turn pink.

I took out my camera, Fuji X20, and started to photograph what I was seeing. As the sky was changing, and I was getting closer to home, I kept photographing what I was seeing being fascinated with how the colors were getting more intense and growing across the sky.

At last I was almost home and before turning up my street, which would have been turning away from this beautiful sky, I stopped to take just a couple more shots. Here are just five of the photos that I took but I feel they are a good representation of what I was seeing...

As for how I took these photos, you just might be able to guess. Let me just say that this is not the kind of photography that I would suggest you try doing. It's just something that I've done for years and it's hard to break the habit... :-)
