Walking Home At Lock 75
2011

Well, we’ve come down to the last three of my all time favorite top thirty B&W images, and these three photos are Cumberland related.

I’ve had fun doing this and I hope you have enjoyed viewing all of these photos. As you view these images, I will either be working my last day before retirement or I will have already left and am now unemployed – so to speak.

I will be taking a week off from working on my blog, and I will be going over a few ideas that I have for what I may do next. I have a couple of projects in mind but I’m not sure which one I will start first. So, I guess you will have to stand by and see what it is that I will do next.

Yeah, this has been, and it still is, my world and you are welcome to it…

Three very different B&W photos.

With these three, we have a “set” photo, a “sports” photo and a “scenic” photo. Three diverse, but equally fun and exciting to create. Basically these are all a once in a lifetime capture, never to be repeated exactly like these again.

Disagree? Let me know…

Today’s three B&W images are all historical in nature. Two are from Colonial Williamsburg and the third is from Harper’s Ferry.

I love touring historical places, and finding items to photograph are, for me, a lot more fun than any other kind of photography. What I like to do first is to look for the unusual or the seemingly un-photographic item and to photograph it in a very pleasing way. The second thing I like to do is to photograph the always photographed item but in a most unusual way.

I believe I have done both in all three of these images, but if you disagree, let me know…

Day two of week number two of the B&W walk down memory lane.

Today we have the first of three vertical images that made the top thirty list. These images are taken from past journal entries. In case you haven’t heard, at the end of the week I enter into retirement. For the past two weeks I’ve been preparing for the final move and just have not had the time for good photography, except for a few youth sports events.

So, to fill in for now I’ve been displaying my all time top thirty B&W images that I have brought to you on Riff’s Photography Journal. I hope you have enjoyed the ones I’ve put up already and that you will hang in there to see what will be posted the rest of the week.

Yeah, these are from my world and you are welcome to it…

This begins week two of the walk down memory lane.

At the end of this week I will leave my job and entire into retirement. I haven’t had time to do much photography, except for some youth sports work, so I’ve been re-visiting my top 30 B&W images.

Last week I brought the first 15 – 3 a day – and this week we will continue to do the same. These are not in any particular order except for the fact that I began with those from 2008 and have been walking back to the present.

I hope you enjoyed the photos from last week and that you will continue to view the ones I put this week. Of course, any and all comments are most welcome.

Yeah, this is my B&W world and you are welcome to it…

Day five, end of the first week.

Each day I’ve been displaying three of my all time favorite B&W images. I’ve been doing this because at work, it has been quite busy winding down to retirement. I haven’t had time to do any photography so I decided to take a walk down memory lane and show each day three B&W photos from past posts.

Next week I will show the other fifteen that have yet to be displayed. I hope you enjoy them.

Yeah, these are from my world and you are welcome to it…

These images were, again, created in 2009. Two are connected to the C&O Canal and the third one is actually setup in a store front during a segment of Cumberland Goes To War.

I hope you are enjoying viewing these images and look forward to seeing what else I have in mind…

As a reminder, I’m doing this everyday until Friday of next week (24th). That is when I will work my last day of full time employment before retirement.

All of these images are from past posts and today’s images come from 2009.

Beginning today, and for the next two weeks, I will be posting Black & White images from past journal entries.

In two weeks I’ll be working my last day of full time work before going into retirement. In doing so I will be quite busy in getting there. I’m not sure how much time I will have to devote to photography so I have decided to post thirty of my all time favorite B&W photos. Starting with these three.

Picking the final thirty was not easy. I boiled them down to sixty and I had a very hard time dividing them in half. I originally intended to pick ten but I just could not get past the thirty mark.

Each evening I will choose three for the next day’s post.

So, come along for the ride. See which ones are my favorite and then let me know if you agree with my choice or not. Actually, this should be fun.

Yeah, these are from my world and you are welcome to it…

A Winter’s Eve

About a week ago, coming home from photographing a youth soccer match, I was captivated by how this house looked in the snow.

It was still flurrying a little, but the lighting of the house and the surrounding area was almost magical. So, I grabbed by tripod and camera and setup out front. I took several photos from differing angles, but this is the one I like best.

MVP Self-Portrait

My newest grandson, of eight months, has a fascination with my camera.

Whenever he sees it he stares at it, and if he gets close enough he will reach out to try and grab it. This one particular time I was sort of letting him play with it when he snapped the shutter and this is the end result.

Not bad for his first photo. I plan on keeping this one special and I have it tagged as A.B.’s first photo.

Where Words Fail…

My wife knows how I love music. She also knows that I can play the guitar. As a little present, she gave this to me to keep at my desk.

Yeah, I can strum along, and when I’m not doing photography or SWLing (Short Wave Listening) I play with my guitar. I have an acoustic guitar and I also have an electric one that looks similar to the one that is shown here.

Playing the guitar is great for just having fun and they are great for getting rid of stress. It is amazing how one can relax by just playing the guitar. The songs one plays and how they sound, played on the guitar, says a lot about the person playing it. I hope my playing, and photography, says something nice.

You know, music really does speak… :-)
